We welcomed our new members with a club night and bbq.

Over 80% of our members turned up for this event, to help them settle in and get to know a few more people.

Very successful evening with a friendly game of bowls, some great food by Chef’s David and Tony, and lovely salads supplied by our ladies. All finished off nicely with cornetto’s supplied by our social club. And of course, the bar was open.

Lots of chat and laughter between new and old members, creating an event we hope to hold more often as our Merrow family grows.

Judging Day

This was an accolade we deservedly won last year.

Barbara Owen and some of her gardening team welcomed the judges for this year’s entry. Volunteer members weed, water, and apply compost – which we make ourselves, and keep the beds tidy and beautiful.

Well done everyone! And let’s hope for another win this year!

16 Players took part, after a preliminary round, in Merrow Bowls Club 2 Wood knockout competition. It was a marathon day with finalists playing up to 84 ends to get there!

Congratulations to Barbara Owen and Steve Morris for reaching the final. – with Steve just nudging the win!

Well done to everyone taking part. It was a hot, competitive and very tiring competition, but worth the effort and good fun.

We welcomed Mayford Hall to Merrow for a 4 rink triples friendly, meeting some old friends we play with during the indoor season at Wey Valley. We played at their green a few weeks earlier and were struck by hail, as seen in an earlier post.

This was a competitive match, but good fun as well with nice people! We had a guess the overall combined score competition at half time tea break, with one of our players and one of Mayford’s winning £5 each for guessing the exact score correctly.

We won the game, but as a friendly we had a fun afternoon, and that was just as important.

This is always a fun night!

All abilities play together and interact with members they may not otherwise get to know. It’s a quick way to get to know everyone in the club, and give you experience of competitive games in a league.

The league is growing rapidly. We have 6 teams currently, with 39 members involved. Next year we will be increasing this to 8 teams. We treat this league as a fun, member bonding, casual game of bowls, where the more experienced players will pass on some tips and advice to help improve your game.

If you are not currently involved, give it a try next year. Once you join it, you won’t want to give it up!

Normally played in the Social Club, we had a first playing outdoors in the relative cool. Two decided on playing bowls – so you can do that as well.

Congratulations to our Merrow Top Club Team! Entering for the first time in the Women’s Top Club competition, your intrepid team travelled to Tongham and emerged victorious! We’re now in the Semi Final !
